Day 1: Mount Kilimanjaro Shira Plateau Day Trip

Your adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. You will drive to the Londorossi Gate, located on the western side of Kilimanjaro National Park, where registration formalities are completed. From the gate, continue by vehicle through the mountain forest and heath zone to the Shira Plateau, reaching an elevation of approximately 3,500 meters above sea level.

Upon arrival at the plateau, begin a guided walk through the open moorland landscape while enjoying spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding wilderness. Your guide will share insights about the mountain’s ecology, geology, and unique plant species that thrive at high altitude. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities for photography and wildlife spotting, including mountain birds and small mammals.
